All art(and other artefacts we can name and judge) are composed of balancing dualities. These dualities, or binaries, make up the whole of a quality. For instance – one of the qualities the human body has is temperature. Temperature is the product of balancing two opposing binarities – hot and cold. Temperature is neither hot, nor cold, it is the blending of the two. (there’s much more to say) All art is a number or scales of dualities mixed together. Warm colors – cold colors, light vs dark, sharp vs smooth, etc. Some art may be totalitarian in it’s use of only one side of the extreme in an effort to make it most powerful. However, that doesn’t work because when there is no oppositional poin of comparison, there is no context.

A white painting is not nearly as white if it’s all white. White needs black to be seen as what it is. And there is a perfect balance for achieving the impression of whitest Every object and idea in this world exist in a multy-leveld(dimansional) state of contexts. I’m saying this because I imagined the following situation. A designer has come up with a a completely rounded logo. It’s all smooth curves and there is no sharpnes to be found.

Despite my theory of complementary oposites and the need of black to see the whitenes of white, this curved logo is seen and perceived by everyone as indeed very curved. That is to say, all opositioning qualities are absent from the artwork, and it is in complete harmony with it’s qualities. People don’t need straight lines to perseive it’s intended exagerated form. So my theory is wrong then, no? No, because that logo is in a multy-contextual environment. It’s roundness is upon a sqare sheat of paper, in a cubical room. It will be seen on rectangular freight trucks. And even if all of that is avoided, the human man will in any case, always, instinctively provide that other half of the duality and then balance it’s object of observation to it. And you can always count on that inevetable mental function. A duality will always be completed.
